What the numbers mean

“EV per $1” is the long-run value of each action per dollar bet: standing on 16 vs 10 returns about −$0.54, hitting about −$0.51 — both lose on average, hitting loses less, and that three-cent gap is the entire argument. “Win %” counts pushes as neither win nor loss. When two lines sit within half a cent we flag the hand as borderline instead of manufacturing false confidence — the honest answer to a coin-flip is “coin-flip”. For two-card hands the calculator links straight to the full page with rule variations and counting deviations; multi-card hands (your 12 that became a 16) are computed live, which is exactly where paper charts go blind.

Frequently asked

Does the calculator work for hands with 3 or more cards?

Yes — that is its main advantage over a chart. Add cards as you draw them and the EV recomputes for the exact composition, including soft hands that went hard.

Which rules does it assume?

The most common live-dealer setup: 8 decks, dealer stands on soft 17, blackjack pays 3:2, double after split. For other rule sets, every two-card hand’s page shows the variations.

Is this the same as basic strategy?

It is basic strategy — computed live rather than memorized. The output for any two-card hand matches the published canon exactly; that match is part of our automated test suite.
